BEFORE THE TREATMENT
It is necessary to make pre-op examinations (laboratory tests of blood and urine, EKG, examination by GP). Good health condition is required. There should not be any acute or inflammatory disease of the skin 3 weeks before the treatment. Drugs which cause bleeding (Acylpyrin, Anorypin etc) should not be used 2-3 weeks before. Using of supporting enzymatic drugs (Wobenzym) and hair dying are also not recommended before the treatment.
AFTER THE TREATMENT
Recovery is individual and depends on healing ability and general approach of a patient.
It is essential to keep position on the back with elevated head when resting or sleeping.Total bandage remains for 2-3 days after face lift. Swelling and bruising are common, however, they gradually resolve after 4-7 days. Another symptom may be a slight fever (up to 38) for 1-2 days. Therefore it is necessary to stay resting and apply cold compresses on the face. Patients usually feel no pain, but rather an unpleasant pressure of the bandage. The stitches are removed within 6-8 days after the surgery. However, the facial tissue needs several weeks to stabilize.
Usual physical activities, including exercising, should be avoided for 3 weeks after the surgery. Wearing a make-up is recommended after a week, dark hair dying after 4-6 weeks.
Feelings of tension and lesser sensitivity in the treated area are usual syndromes which disappear gradually. Mild swelling may remain for several weeks, especially during warm weather. Intensive sun exposure should be avoided for at least 1 month and creams with high SPF must be applied.
COMPLICATIONS
Possible postoperative complications, which prolong the recovery time, include bleeding or infection. However, use of antibiotics before the surgery can prevent the infection. Complication which occurs due to facial nerve damage is very rare.
Scars may appear, usually behind the ears. Fortunately, there are various effective solutions that can significantly help to reduce surgery scars and minimize their appearance.
